Safety checks first
Patch test 48 hours before every treatment and strand test colour-treated hair. Work in a well-ventilated room — open a window while you flat-iron, as glyoxylic acid can release traces of formaldehyde at high heat. Never apply to an irritated or broken scalp. Grey and very porous blonde hair can discolour at high heat — strand test and use a lower iron temperature.
Cleanse — no conditioner
Shampoo twice with a clarifying shampoo (Go Deeper Cleansing Shampoo is the professional choice), leaving the second wash on for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and do not condition.
Towel-dry to 90% and section
Blot until damp but not dripping. Do not blow-dry. Section into 4 and clip.
Apply the treatment
Shake and massage the pouch, then dispense into a plastic bowl. First treatment: apply 0.5cm from the scalp through to the ends. Retouch: 0.5cm from the scalp to the line of previous treatment only. Saturate every strand — overlapping is safe. Gather on the crown and cover with a plastic cap.
Heat activate
Process under a heated cap or hood dryer on high heat. Virgin, coarse or resistant hair: 60–90 minutes. Moderate curl or porosity: 45–60 minutes. Very porous or damaged hair: 30 minutes.
Rinse to 90%
Rinse with low-flow, lukewarm water until about 90% of the product is out. Do not over-rinse — leaving around 10% in keeps hair moisturised and helps the finish.
Finish: choose your control
Maximum Control — blow-dry completely, then flat-iron at up to 230°C in thin sections; more heat, tension and passes give a straighter result. Moderate Control — blow-dry with a round brush, no iron needed.
No downtime
You can wash, work out, swim and even colour your hair the same day. For the longest-lasting results, use sulphate-free Smooth Service Shampoo and Hydration Fixation Conditioner.
