Reapplication guide
How often can you get a keratin treatment?
Every 3-5 months for QIQI Hair Controller. Every 3-4 months for Nanokeratin System. Both are formaldehyde-free — there is no cumulative damage and no reason to wait longer than you need to.
Here is exactly how often to reapply, what to expect, and what it costs per year.
QIQI reapplication
3-5 months
Nanokeratin reapplication
3-4 months
Cumulative damage
None
Formaldehyde
Zero
Why it is safe to reapply.
The concern about repeated keratin treatments comes from older formulations that contained formaldehyde. Formaldehyde-based treatments released toxic fumes with each application, and repeated exposure was a genuine health risk.
Modern formaldehyde-free treatments do not have this problem. QIQI Hair Controller uses a cysteine-based formula that restructures the hair safely. Nanokeratin System uses nano-sized keratin molecules that coat and penetrate the hair shaft without any harmful chemistry.
There is no build-up, no weakening of the hair, and no health risk from repeated applications. Many of our customers have been reapplying consistently for years. If anything, hair that is regularly treated tends to be in better condition than untreated hair — smoother, stronger, and less prone to breakage.
How each treatment works differently.
QIQI Hair Controller permanently restructures the disulfide bonds inside the hair shaft. The treated hair stays smooth until it grows out. New growth comes through untreated — which is why you only need to reapply to the regrowth, not the full length. This makes each reapplication faster and more economical.
Nanokeratin System works differently. It deposits nano-keratin molecules into and onto the hair, smoothing it temporarily. The treatment washes out gradually over 12-16 weeks. When you reapply, you treat the full head because the previous application has faded.
Both approaches are completely safe for repeated use. The difference is in how you reapply — regrowth only vs full head — and how often you need to.

The real cost
Keratin treatment cost per year.
Most people compare keratin treatment prices by looking at the bottle cost. The better comparison is cost per year — because the two treatments have very different reapplication rates and yields per bottle.
QIQI Hair Controller
~£80-120/year
£119 per bottle
3+ treatments per bottle
Reapply regrowth only every 3-5 months
1 bottle lasts 9-15 months
Nanokeratin System
~£280/year
From £129 per bottle
1 treatment per bottle
Reapply full head every 3-4 months
2-3 bottles per year
For context, a single salon keratin treatment in the UK typically costs £150-300. At-home treatment with QIQI Hair Controller gives you professional results for the cost of one salon visit — and covers you for most of the year.
When to reapply
Signs it is time for another treatment.
Frizz returning at the roots
With QIQI, this means new growth has come through untreated. Time to treat the regrowth.
Overall texture reverting
With Nanokeratin, you will notice the smoothness fading gradually along the entire length as it washes out.
Blow-dry takes longer
When your usual blow-dry routine starts taking 10-15 minutes longer, the treatment has faded enough to reapply.
Humidity affects your hair again
If your hair starts reacting to rain or humidity after months of being unaffected, the treatment is wearing off.
You do not need to wait for all of these signs. Many people reapply on a schedule — every 3-4 months — before the previous treatment has fully faded. This keeps results consistent and avoids any "in-between" phase.
Common questions
Keratin treatment frequency — FAQ
How often can you get a keratin treatment?
You can reapply a keratin treatment as often as every 3 months. QIQI Hair Controller lasts up to 5 months, so most people reapply every 3-5 months on regrowth only. Nanokeratin System lasts 12-16 weeks and washes out gradually, so reapplication every 3-4 months is typical. Both are formaldehyde-free and safe for repeated use.
Is it safe to keep getting keratin treatments?
Yes — provided you use a formaldehyde-free treatment. QIQI Hair Controller and Nanokeratin System contain zero formaldehyde and zero aldehyde derivatives. There is no cumulative damage from repeated applications. Many customers have been reapplying every 3-5 months for years with no issues.
Do I need to apply keratin treatment to my whole head every time?
Not necessarily. With QIQI Hair Controller, you only need to treat the regrowth — the new hair that has grown since your last application. The previously treated lengths retain their structure. Nanokeratin System washes out fully, so you reapply to the entire head each time.
Can I do a keratin treatment before the last one has fully worn off?
Yes. You do not need to wait for the previous treatment to fully fade. With QIQI, applying to regrowth while the lengths are still smooth is the most efficient approach. With Nanokeratin, reapplying before the previous treatment has fully washed out simply refreshes the result.
Does frequent keratin treatment damage your hair?
No. Formaldehyde-free keratin treatments like QIQI and Nanokeratin do not cause cumulative damage. They restructure or coat the hair using safe bonding agents — cysteine for QIQI, nano-keratin molecules for Nanokeratin. If anything, treated hair tends to be stronger, smoother, and less prone to breakage than untreated hair.
How much does keratin treatment cost per year?
QIQI Hair Controller costs roughly £80-120 per year. Each £119 bottle contains 3+ full treatments, and you only reapply every 3-5 months — so one bottle can last most of the year. Nanokeratin System costs roughly £280 per year, as each £129 bottle is a single application and you reapply every 3-4 months.
