How keratin works on curly hair.
Curly hair has more disulfide bonds than straight hair — these are the chemical bonds that give the hair its shape. A keratin treatment works by temporarily softening these bonds using heat. Once softened, the hair is dried and flat-ironed into a new configuration. The bonds reset in the new shape, locking in the result.
On curly hair, this can mean different things depending on application. With fewer flat-iron passes, the curl loosens and the frizz disappears — but natural wave remains. With more passes at higher heat, the hair straightens significantly. The result is partly controllable by the person applying it.
This is different from a relaxer. A relaxer permanently breaks the disulfide bonds — the curl does not return. A keratin treatment temporarily restructures them. After 4–5 months (or sooner with a sulphate shampoo), the hair gradually returns to its natural curl pattern.

Will a keratin treatment straighten curly hair?
It depends on how it is applied and the heat used. A keratin treatment can reduce curl volume and frizz while maintaining a natural wave, or it can deliver a very straight result with more flat-iron passes at higher temperature. Most people with wavy or curly hair use it for frizz control and easier manageability rather than to go fully straight.

Can I still have curly hair after a keratin treatment?
Yes. A keratin treatment reduces the intensity of the curl and eliminates frizz — but if you want to preserve curl pattern, you can. Apply less product and use fewer flat-iron passes. Many people with curly hair use keratin treatments specifically to get frizz-free, defined curls rather than straight hair.
Is keratin treatment safe for colour-treated curly hair?
For tinted or highlighted curly hair — yes, use QIQI Thin & Delicate. For bleached curly hair, do not apply within 4 weeks of bleaching. The Wavy & Curly formula is for non-chemically processed natural curl patterns.
